During the reign of Thaddeus Amadé, in the second half of the 18th century, the 15th-century water fort was converted into the Baroque castle we know it as today. Today the castle functions as a retirement home. This is where the famous poet Laslo Aamdé was born in 1703. His most famous poem is „To the beautiful shining soldier” to which János Arany wrote music.

The Amade Castle's predecessor was a 15th-century water fort, which was converted into a renaissance castle in the 17th century. During the reign of Thaddeus Amade in the second half of the 18th century it took on the form of a Baroque castle. The main facade is emphasized by a segmented Attica. According to legend Maria Theresa gave birth to Joseph II on the top floor of the castle's southern bastion. This story lacks any factual proof, however, the poet Laszló Amade was definitely born here. Today, the castle functions as a retirement home. The picturesque park lies on both banks of the Csiliz stream.

The originally Baroque style castle was converted to classicist style in the 1800s. Today, this two-story structure is considered to be among Dunajská Streda's monument buildings. In the small park around it, we will find a wooden statue of György Lipcsei. The building houses the Csallóköz Museum. The permanent exhibition comprises 17 thematic units providing a comprehensive and faithful representation of the lives of the people living here. The ground floor houses archeological artifacts and fossils, the first floor features ethnographic and historical materials.

Commissioned by the Bishop of Veszprém, Márton Bíró Padányi, the spacious mansion with several floors planned for his brother István Bíró was finished in Pólkatelek in 1753. This was later to be known as the Sárga kastély (Yellow Castle) and expansive lands belonged to it. Later the Kondé family of Pókatelek gained ownership of it and had it renovated according to their own taste at the beginning of the 19th century (This was when the Kondé coat of arms was added to the facade and the huge stone turkey statue above it.)

Intoxicating

There is almost everything on the tour’s drink menu: spritzer, wine, spirits, beer and, moreover, delicious cocktails. We show a few places in our local region where such tasty drinks can be found. In terms of the history of culture, we can be most proud of the spritzer, and we will find out the whys during the tour. Be careful while tasting and drink in moderation, as you are riding a bike!

(We only mention in parentheses, if you wish to taste them, pay attention to the order, because you know: "Wine after beer, always - beer after wine, torments you.")

In search rulers

Indeed even kings and emperors have spent time in this nation of ours for one reason or another, perhaps they were dealing out justice, sitting counsel or fighting on the battlefield. Walk the paths they once did and become acquainted with the artefacts and relics that uphold their memories, stop for a moment and experience living history.
