Tour planning

We reach Komárom from Mosonmagyaróvár on the northern Hungarian part of the EuroVelo 6 cycle route through the towns and villages of Győr, Gönyű, Nagyszentjános, and Ács, which offer the opportunity to relax and replenish our supplies. In the town of Komárom, we can choose from numerous hotel accommodation on both sides of the Danube.

During day two, we reach the town of Kolárovo (Gúta) (which is deservedly famous for its watermill) along the longest river in Slovakia, the Váh (Vág), and then we reach Topoľníky (Nyárasd) along the bends of the Little Danube, in the embrace of the nature of the Rye Island. Here, after a short rest, we reach the town of Dunajská Streda on a bicycle path connecting the villages of the region, which touches the charming villages of Trhová Hradská (Vásárút), Ohrady (Csallóközkürt), Veľké Dvorníky (Nagyudvarnok) and Malé Dvorníky (Kisudvarnok). As a spa town, Dunajská Streda offers a great opportunity to relax after a tiring trip, and a multitude of hotel accommodation and restaurants wait for the visitors.

The third and last day of the trip starts from Dunajská Streda, and some sections can be covered on bicycle paths, and some parts on low-traffic roads, which require precaution and appropriate “equipment”. The second section takes the cyclists to their destination through several towns and villages, but we have made the third day even more difficult when compiling the tour. Leaving the already known village of Veľké Dvorníky, we head towards Blažov (Balázsfa), then Povoda (Pódafa), Vrakúň (Várkony), Kostolné Kračany (Egyházkarcsa), Kynceľove Kračany (Göncölkarcsa), Jurová (Dercsika), Trstené (Nádasd) - where we enter the Euro Velo 6 cycle route - and Kyselica (Keszölcés), where we cross the Danube River using the local ferry to arrive at the village of Vojka nad Dunajom (Vajka). From Vojka nad Dunajom we cycle along the Danube, through Dobrohošť (Doborgaz) to Čunovo, and then at Rajka we cross the Hungarian-Slovak border and arrive at Mosonmagyaróvár via Bezenye, thus finishing the round trip.

Imprints of the Baroque age

Complicated patterns, rich ornamentation, monumentality, strong contrasts and dynamism, these are the main stylistic traits of the Baroque age. The city of Győr is almost synonymous with Baroque becoming the defining style of art during the Turkish occupation of Hungary, as it is considered to be one of the most important centers of the Baroque period. However, the style was popular in other towns and villages of the region too. Seek out these beautiful buildings and sculptures and experience the spirit of the Baroque period.
